4 Easy Actions for Belly-Fat Retractions

Tis the season to get bloated. Who wants the holiday hang? Not me! So here are 4 simple ways to keep body fat at bay from the November issue of Health

1) Have a bedtime snack. Two Florida State University studies found that having about 150 calories before bed boosts metabolism. They recommend low-fat cottage cheese. So do we–or a casein-whey protein shake.

2) Get amino acids throughout the day. Aminos are the building blocks of protein. The authors recommend egg whites or protein shakes, but say it’s actually the branched-chain amino acids that are key to boosting metabolism….

Those are leucine, isoleucine and valine. You can get capsules to take throughout the day. We like BCAA Matrix, but there are others at your local health food store. (More info about BCAA Matrix HERE.)

3) Drink more water. Even mild dehydration slows body fat annihilation. And Scott Isaacs, M.D., clinical instructor of medicine at Emory University of Medicine, says to drink it ice cold to force your body to heat it up, which burns more calories.

4) Drink coffee early in the day and before workouts. A study published in Physiology & Behavior found that the average metabolic rate of people who drank caffeinated coffee was 16 percent higher than that of whose who drank decaf.

Why before exercise? Studies show that caffeine helps the body better mobilize fat for energy. It amplifies your fat burn and churn.

And of course you want to follow the Old School New Body diet mantra–four to six protein-charged, low-glycemic meals a day. BUT make sure your diet is tailor made for YOU–the right portion sizes, calorie totals, carb count, etc….

    I also get your daily news letters where I saw the “Make Over Midsection” for
